Lord God, so many times we come to you with self-serving motives, looking out for our own self interest first and foremost. Today we pray that you would transform our hearts to look not after our own interests, but after the interests, needs, and concerns of others, to break for those who find themselves constantly struggling to find life from the margins of our societal structures, the working poor, those with physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges, those who are suffering under the constant flux of a struggling economy, the destitute and the homeless.
Oh God of Creation, you have created all of humanity in your image; give us new eyes to see that image in the faces of all our neighbors of every race, nationality, religion, political persuasion, or orientation.
Open our hearts to embrace one another truly in love, to receive others as we would receive you, to welcome them into our own hearts despite the differences of thought or opinion that many people would see as insurmountable.
And tonight, Lord God, we pray that you will bless these men and women with wisdom as they labor and struggle together to make decisions for
Lord God, open our hearts and capture us with your love, and come, make your dwelling place among us. Amen.
