The Seasons, the Colors, and the Calendar

At this time last week I was in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, at the southern most tip of the Baja penninsula, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean. Temps were in the 90s, the sun was shining brightly, I was in a bathing suit and periodically sipping on frozen fruit drinks.

This morning I woke up in Michigan to temps in the mid-30s, frost on the windshield, mist radiating into the cold air from the geothermal heat, and the autumn foliage at about 75-80% color.

How do the seasons of the year reflect the seasons of life? In a church tradition that does not use the ecclesial calendar, what value might there be in recovering a sanctified understanding of time that allows the seasons of the church calendar to impact the seasons of life?
